SPDIF is the data format, it can go via all sorts of electrial sockets, mainly phono, bnc and XLR
I have made leads to get the following to work :
Marantz DVD (phono) - Linn Numerik (bnc)
Marantz CDR (phono) - Linn Numerik (bnc)
Linn Karik (bnc) - Marantz CDR (phono)
Linn Karik (bnc) - Ego-Sys WAMI Rack (phono)
Linn Karik (phono) - Musical Fidelity X-DAC (Phono)
All worked fine.
The only one I wouldn't get to work was
EGO-Sys WAMI Rack (phono) - Numerik (bnc)
but I think this was more to do with getting a digital lock on the signal. I have not found the Numerik very compatible with digital sources. It is O.K. with the Karik though!
The easiest way to go is to make a lead is to buy the right length digital interconnect phono- phono, with not too big a cable diameter, cut off the right end, taking account to the directionality, and solder on a 75 ohm bnc plug.
Another factor to worry about is the SPDIF output format of the PC. If it is a Creative soundcard, it might be 48Khz, but this should be automatically recognised by the Numerik. If you can switch it via software/ configuration I would go for 44.1KHz, for optimum compatibility.
Good luck

You can buy BNC-phono adaptors from Maplin and elsewhere, these do the trick if you have a phono/phono cable.
I connect my PC to my Numerik, but I made a long cable for the purpose.
Whether the S/PDIF output on your PC is 'parallel' to the analogue sound output, or whether it's separate and will need configuration I don't know. You could explore the relevant control panel applet.
