I have heard many references to Transmission Line speakers, but not seen a document outling:

Their point of difference.

Weaknesses

Strengths

Relative cost to produce

I am sure someone can help me out

Some amateur obervations and stereotypes-

quote:
Weaknesses

Difficult to implement properly

Difficult to get coherent, integrated sound

Complex cabinet internals therefore higher cost

Less sensitivity compared to ported box

quote:
Strengths

Deep, quick bass from a small driver and cabinet

Comparatively inert cabinet due to internal folds

More sensitivity compared to sealed box

Easier to place

A correctly designed and constructed pair of TLS can sound very musical.
These speakers will judge harshly any amplifier that isn't capable of driving these units correctly.
I am currently using a pair of IMF RSPM with 2x135 - bass, 1x250 - mid and 1x250 hifh end.
The low frequency from a TLS is quite detailed and open.

Like any high defintion loud speaker they will sound ordinary when coupled to inferior or low powered amplifiers.

I also use active Isobaric and these have advantages over the TLS such as tight bass but the TLS extend lower and have more ambience.

It eventually comes down to how good the amplifier is and the type of bass performance you are prepared to compromise on.
