Silly question from Naim Newbie re: recording
Posted by: mfidelity on 24 November 2003
How do I get a tape output signal from my 112 to my CD recorder (RCA inputs)?
I'm pleased as can be with my 112/150/FC2/CD5 system. Sources are LP12 and Phillips SACD1000. Speakers are Thiel CS2.3
I "downgraded" from a much more powerful and expensive system that didn't give me near the listening involvement and pleasure I'm getting from this modest Naim system. Now I see what all the fuss is about.

Some of the sockets (eg. tape) will be in/out ones.
So, as woody says, you'll need a DIN to 4xRCA cable. Flashback in the UK are getting a good reputation: I've bought from him and the service is great, however I don't know if anybody's done any comparative listening tests.
Regarding recording to CD, I'm not sure what level of performance you'll get from a recording CD player since it goes D->A->A->D. Personally I do my CD copying on computer where it's all (D->D).

I record to CD via a spare output on my HiCap, partly becasue it just required a standard Din to 2x RCA which I happend to have lying around and partly because it saves reprogramming the record source when I switch sources.
In spite of the D->A->A->D conversion it sounds pretty good to me. I have played back recorded CD tracks against the original and there seems to be very little degradation in quality.
Vinyl recorded onto CD this way does'nt sound too shabby either.

call ken or mark at promusica. (773-883-9500)
they have three different quality/pricing levels.
1. dirt cheap rat shack din>rca = $10
2. tributaries din>rca = $40
3. chord (naim) = $150 or so.
i just got one for an old tuner.
hope you're enjoying it!
