Memorable compliments.

Just been thinking, while doing the washing-up and listening to The Doors at max volume, about the more notable comments people have made about my system.
The first that springs to my mind is a friend walking up the stairs in my villa in Saudi while the music was playing 30ft and 2 corridors away. He stopped walking, looked at me smiling, and said 'God, that sounds fantastic!. Other-room-syndrome?
On another occasion we held a party in our villa and after about 2 hours I noticed that all the women (!!) were huddled on and around the settee with big grins on their faces. And no, Boyzone weren't on the CDX!
Anyone care to shares their memories, it might start the weekend off nicely....

The closest I've come to a compliment was when my brother looked at my Saras and said, "I can't believe how much bass you get out of those little speakers." I think I've finally convinced him that the hard part is getting the bass into the speakers in the first place.

After a rather early session of listening a friend said. "But this isn't like regular listening material, your system gives so much more detail it's almost unnatural."

and that was with the lowly 90/92r, CD5

what will happen when I get my dreamed of 82?

Another friend after an opera said what did you pay for your speakers, I guess I need to get something better for my system. david and I just looked at each other and didn't bother to detail all the info on my hard won system.

Many, many years ago after a evening spent drinking beer and listening to assorted music my friend walked over to my Nait (chrome bumpers), tapped it with his finger and said “I never knew eight watts could sound so loud”.

I just smiled, to be honest I didn’t think eight watts could sound so good.

A friend of mine said: "this naim system throws so much energie towards me, it's unbelievable!"

(That was with active SBLs)

I was playing vinyl for a "digital only" friend.
He was shocked. Asked where I was hidding my subwoofer. (Non existent)

a couple of well chosen tracks rarely fail to get an "expletive that sounds good!" - especially after an evening in the pub

I had a (non Hi-Fi) freind round and asked him if he wanted to hear a record. He picked "the Shadows Greatest Hits".(!)

I tried to explain that my system`s sound did not conform to the "normal" parameters of Hi-Fi.....he just said....." I haven`t given much thought to the sound quality, I`m too immersed in listening to the music"

Nuff said

I often get "what a great CD, I must buy it", they never mention the system, and strangely never mention the particular CDs again when they have bought their own copies. I guess it didn't sound like they remember. Smile

I told a friend of mine to bring over some of his CDs, mostly early music. He couldn't believe the depth of sound, but one orchestrated piece that never worked well on his small Denon mini system was quite dense just came alive. "WOW" was his comment. He was sad to go back to his system tho after that. But I have him over for regular listening sessions.

From my wife (who is a far better pianist than I am): "is that you playing the piano?"

At the risk of sounding like a scratched record Wink this was shortly after installing the dedicated spur. Mind you, I'm not sure how this turned my playing standard into that of Alfed Brendel.

My lovely mother in law

She had been house sitting for us a couple of weekends back and last week she mentioned that she had bought an Andy Williams CD and had played it first on my "record player" but when she got home and played it on her's, it sounded "all wrong". She wondered whether my record player could have damaged the CD in some way.

I love her, she's great.
