Bloody mains pollution!

I work until the early hours most nights. Last night when I came home I had a rare opportunity to listen to my system at 1 am. It sounded so good I was actually satisfied listening at LOWER levels than normal. Everything sounded so uncolored throughout the frequency range, and so open, with fantastic dynamics!
I listened again around midday, when I woke up and the midrange and top end sounded grainy in comparison, and the bass just a little boomy, not in an uncontrolled boomy sort of way, just coloured. I know the reason for this but not the solution. Bear in mind that using Music Works Blocks and leads on the CD5 is counterproductive, in my experience, if effective on the Densen pre/power, and possibly the Flatcap2. I really want it to sound like it did late at night all the time. BTW, I live in a detached house in the suburbs of a small town. I currently use the leads supplied by the manufacturers of the components, and the mains block costs about 5 GBP from B&Q!

...dedicated line?

This is your obvious next step. I guess if you don't own the house, it might not be so obvious. wink If you do, then this is your best (and possibly cheapeast). Get a dedicated line run directly from your panel to a hospital grade outlet. That will help a bunch.

However, I don't think you'll ever get your system to sound as good at noon as it does at 1am. That happens to be one of Naim's failings (or benefits, depending on how you look at it). Naim gear lets the power through. If the power is good, then your system is good. If the power is bad, then your system is bad too.

Other manufacturers deal with the problem by giving you consistently mediocre performance. Since I usually listening to my system in the evenings and early morning, I'm happy with Naim's design "compromises".
