How is a cds and power supply nowadays as compared to a bare cdx. Or would a cdx and xps be better by nowadays standards. Thanks Ted

I have owned both the CDS1 and CDX/XPS. The CDS1 delivers a more analogue presentation similar to the CDS2 the CDX/XPS still has a digital presentation.

Yes, CDSPS will work with CDX but need to have burndy modified. Alternatively, if you already have CDS1, consider having the CDS1 head unit upgraded to CDSII.

I am thinking of buying a little used cds and recapped cdps in hopes that it will sound less harsh than my cdx. Are spare parts still avaiable for a cds head unit ?, or should I pass an save for an xps? Ted (nac 82, hi, recapped 250, monitor audio studio 50's) By the way the price is 2700.00 us. Any opinions appeciated

ted, I was using CDS1 but CDS1 puck is very sensitive....
If you buy CDS1, you will be not repair your CDS1 CDM-4 transport when CDS transport die.
CDS1 transport must be fitted CDM4/21 or 27.

You can still get your CDS head unit repaired--Naim bought the CDS2 in --so they could keep a reasonable number of CDS1 mechs as spares. There policy is that if you have spent many $/£ 1000's on a cd player of theirs--they feel obliged to be able to repair it for sometime to come( very commendable). They also have a large stock of near new units for recon from all the CDS1-->CDS2 upgrades(the main reason why they ran this low profit upgrade scheme)
They won't however repair the CDi (has CDS mech) with the original mechanism--but substitute a nearly as good one-again so they can save the mechs for the CDS1
