New Beatlea Box Set

Posted by: Skip on 01 November 2009

I have never owned a Beatles CD, my kids have a couple, and I only have a couple of their LP's. We got the box in mono, thinking we could fill in with stereo for the later releases like Abbey Road, Let It Be, etc. These CD's sound great in mono, much better than I expected. And they have a lot of detail which really shines on the nSats at our house, with more bass and better PRaT than I recall on the other versions. $200+ is a big commitment to the Beatles, but I believe the Mono Box is worth it.

I've got the mono box also but have picked up from Help on in stereo as I don't think mono wins out on every track by any means.

Whereas "yesterday" is superb in mono, Help is far superior in stereo (to my ears obviously).

Strangely I think for most of the White album mono is the better buy whereas for Revolver and Rubber Soul it's the stereo ones that by and large win it for me.

Got "Rockband" for my birthday recently so really expecting Ringo and Paul to call around and thank me personally for funding their pension funds.

I've only got the Stereo set and think it is fantastic - I may get the mono set as I've not doubt that is just as good.

I wish there was a band as good and as musical unique and interesting as the Beatles around today, but there isn't.

Do we think the monos will ever be available singly? I would like to try a couple but not the full set.

I'd buy a few early pieces in mono but stereo later on, I"ve never had anything earlier than Rubber Soul.

Rubber Soul is just this:

A fabulous masterpiece, IMHO.

And the stereo-version is wonderful.
