Sennheiser HD600 questions

Posted by: bigtrak on 19 October 2003

Hi
I am thinking of buying a headline amp and a pair of Sennheiser HD600 headphones. The problem is that I would like to do my listening about 8 or 9 meter's away from the amp. My questions are (A) Is it possible to fit a longer cable onto the headphones? (B) Would such a length deteriate the sound? (C) What cable would be best to use?
Finally I am a bit unsure how the Headline works, I have a NAC72 NAP250 and HICAP would I need another HICAP or could I use the one I already got?
Thanks for your time!

I'm currently using a Headline/HI-CAP & HD580s with the Cardas cable. Personally, I found that the improvement made by the Cardas cable was as big, if not bigger, than upgrading the Headline PSU from a NAPSC to a HI-CAP.

Simply put, if you are using Sennheiser HD 580/600/650 headphones without the Cardas lead, then you really aren't hearing them at their best.

On a different note, has anybody here tried the Beyer DT880 headphones with a Headline/HI-CAP? Before I just go out and buy a pair of HD650s, I would like to consider my options.

I like the fact that the DT880s are a little easier to drive than the Sennheisers and they are a "semi-open" design, so hopefully less sound leakage than my noisy HD580s (I have a young family, so when I'm using headphones it's because I don't want to disturb others...)

Cheers,

Adrian
