Electrically speaking, what should I ask for in the new home?

What does one ask their electrician to install as far as mains go?

Is it a "20 amp dedicated line"?

I just want one outlet done for audio, as that's where it gets plugged in exclusively.

So I just need to ask for this outlet upgraded or do I need some kind of separate line to the house or what?

Thanks a lot,

david

PS-- I like my life and that's why I wont do it myself. Guaranteed crispy critter.

Hi David,

Tell your electrician you need *one* dedicated 15 or 20 amp line installed with X number of outlets (X = whatever quantity you need).

The "dedicated" portion (a term which he will be familiar with) simply means a new circuit breaker, AC line and outlet(s) which will supply no load other than the one intended (in this case "load" = your hifi). The new line will be connected at your existing main house breaker panel (assuming it is not full of breakers and/or reached max. rated capacity).

Also, if he asks, the new dedicated line's ground doesn't need to be "isolated". Simply connect the ground per National Code/your breaker box's existing configuration.

If you have any further questions I'd recommend contacting NANA direct. The staff at NANA have a lot of experience with optimizing the mains in the US.

hth,

dave

Sounds like the best approach is to have your own power station.

Amen bro'...but in the meantime this approach works best;-)

I had two dedicated 20A mains with 12 gauge copper wire. One for power amps, the others for source components.

The cheapest upgrades one can make.

Even if you prefer the single line approach for your sistem, ask for 2 now. If you go into AV later, you will plug your video gears in the second one.

Thanks so much for the advice. My hi-fi is INDEED "a load". But now it's gonna be connected right.

Now how much do you think it'd be to wire it all up with solid silver wire??

(Sorry-- wrong forum).

Should a turntable power supply be connected to a different mains feed too?

What do you think about these things? There is also a new power socket with silver wiring by Phonosophie.
