Nac552 and Prefix

When connecting the Prefix to a Nac52 one does not need own Cap for the Prefix. Can one attach prefix also directly to a Nac552, thus without own -Cap?

According to Doug at Naim - Yes
I queried the hierarchy for outboard power for Prefix and he told me he believed a 552 powered Prefix into 552 would outperform a Supercap powered Prefix into a 552

Interesting. Is the new 552 PS so good it overides the advantages of a separate Supercap !? This would be very significant.
How exactly does the new PS differ from a Supercap?
Furthermore how does the SL2 differ from SBLs. Same drivers? Crossover?

Paul, now I am paying attention. I am considering the idea of dedicated Supercap for my prefix. If the 552 will out perform a dedicated Supercap what is the price of the 552 in US$?

If a Prefix into the 552 PS is indeed better than outboarding it with a Supercap, the 552 then becomes within striking distance (in terms of price at least) of a 52SC/Prefix/SC.
But I'm willin to bet that audioparanoia being as potent as it is, will guarantee some people buying an extra 552PS as an outboard PS dedicated to the Prefix.
Incidentally, I thought the dual-rail layout of the 552/552PS precluded the 552PS from powering any non-552 box. Does this mean that the powered input on the 552 (for the Prefix) is a single railed job, and if so, will there never be a 5-series dual railed Prefix?

I believe the 552PS uses an 800VA transformer. (As per the 500PS, I believe).
The SuperCap is a 500VA unit.
It is presumably 'better' as well as beefier.
cheers, Martin

Ron, i guess we have to wait for the manual...
but how would you do that (ie. independently power the channels, channel signals and signal ground/return) with 5 pins.......so perhaps it stays single railed till then

Paul, dunno about the mid-bass driver but the blurb mentions the DBL tweeter. Better PXO parts/ratings seems reasonable. I suspect the Bessel/3rd order hasn't given way to any (quasi)Gaussian type...
Though it resembles their lesser speakers, the port is designed to work as a non-existent one (like in a sealed SBL) and mate with the PAR (that is differnet from the SBL).
Question
The NAP 500 manual states
"The negative input and output connections are all common"
...for the 135/250 etc. ok...but the significance for the 500... Comments ?

Rohit,
you're right. The next paragraph says:-
quote:
Note: Each channel of the nap 500 is a “bridged” amplifier, so none of the speaker outlet sockets (+ or -) is at earth potential.
The input should be at earth potential. If the output was commoned to the input, it would also be earthed.
Well spotted.
