CDS2

Has anyone tryed using a CDS2 as a transport only,
if so how did you get a digital output socket fitted, thinking of buying a second hand ML 30.5.

Oh dear, you don't want to do that because:

A) You can't
B) The fact that the internal DAC is positioned as close as possible to the transport helps to keep jitter as low as possible.

More to the point, why aren't you happy enough with the CDS2? If I bought one I wouldn't feel the need to add a DAC. To get further improvements, all you need to do is upgrade the amp, 'speakers, stands or add a dedicated mains spur.

P.S. Don't buy Mark Levinson unless you want the music to bore you out of your brain.

The CDS2 is as good as it gets. If it aint broken...
Like folks who change the tweeters on their SBLs.
You can overtweak when you are not a real music lover! eek

Jan,

Here's the best way - get a pair of electric heating filaments and attach them to the outputs of the 135s.

Your 135s will then heat up quiet nicely (low impedance) and provide power to the filaments to provide even more heat.

For more "bars" on the fire it also worth considering using non-Naim tweakery 'speaker cable. The impedance mismatch will cause the amp to become unstable and provide additional warmth.

Finally, the choice of music needs to be considered. Subjective opinion has it that Lou Reed's "Metal Machine Music" is ideal at maximising those Wattages. Hurrah, we've found a use for that God-forsaken disc.

It is easy and cheap.

Buy some petrol. Pour petrol on the 135s. Stand well back. Apply a lit match to 135s. After a while the cooling fans will come on (neatly sucking air into the fire and so sustaining it). Et voila your listening room is warm. Now call the fire brigade in order to extinguish the house and/or yourself.

This procedure is highly recommended for Krell and Audio Research equipment.

PS You may wish to service the 135s after this procedure.

Happy burning.

Even better:

Hand over the 135s to me and I'll buy you an electric fire.
