CD5+HiCap?

Can i power a CD5 with a HiCap, and if so what connection lead do i need?

Of course you can!! And it is recommended!!!!
You only need a Din-Din 5 pins Cable, which comes with the hicap.
It is very easy to find S/h Hicas now, and it really improves the sound of pre's and cd players.
GO FOR IT !!!!

I have just bought a 2nd hand HiCap with no lead. Can i use the 5 pin to 5 pin Din lead that came with the CD5 player (interconnect),or do i need a different cable.

Ceri, you need a different cable as it carries current. If you look carefully you will see the interconnect points and the powersupply points are arranged differently.
Do not use an interconnect to connect the cap! Not even just for an experiement!
Look on naims main web site, there is downloadable PDFs one is for wiring compnants, (you need a copy of Acrobat Reader to read them, its free from the adobe site)
I should imagine its a case of removing the power lead from the CD5, using the correct 5 pin lead to connect from the power input from the CD5 to the power out put from the cap and plugging the cap in. But don't quote me because I havn't done it.

You can't use the cable coming with the cd5 to rely cd5 and Hicap....
This a modulation cable with 5 pins but on 180°.
You'll need a cable with 5 pins but on 240° (I think!?)
It costs about 55£ or 90€.

...but if you bought it used, it may not have come with one. If you're buying one new, you'll need a 5-pin SNAIC which will be black, and cost about 50 quid. Most dealers will probably have older grey ones lying around though, for (probably much) less money. Follow the instructions for connecting the FlatCap in the CD5 manual to connect it, using socket 4 on the HiCap.

Sounds like I am not alone in finding the guys in Covent Garden useless. They sold me 3.5m cables which, when I got home measured only 2.5m. They also recommended gold bannanas rather than naim ends. Ceri I presume we are talking about the same guys.

Yes David,we are talking about that particular 'outlet'in Covent Garden.I was in there a few weeks back looking for a 2nd hand HiCap.There weren't any.The conversation then went rather quickly to Pre-amps and such. All sorts of bull was spouted, even though i'm a novice at Naim equipment,i couldn't take the guy seriously at all.Apparently the NAC72 wouldn't suit a NAP250 at all, but that 102(on the shelf) with Snaps would.I'm sure this forum has plenty of 72/250 owners who are happy with their choice of Pre/Power.
I only bought my CD5 there because of the interest free option.I won't be returning.
Anybody been to 'Infidelity' in Kingston or 'Oranges and Lemons' in Battersea? If so, was it a good/helpful experience?
Cheers Ceri.

I will not return either, but your question still stands: Who is a good central London based dealer?

Both Infidelity and Grahams (
www.grahams.co.uk) have good reputations.

I've had excellent service from Infidelity - very knowlegeable and not 'pushy' - happy to recommend them. They also have excellent Linn technical support as well for LP12 upgrades, maintenance etc.
