Your advice please..

am thinking of an upgrade, and am not really sure what's gonna make the biggest difference. at present I have cdx/xps 102/napsc/hi 180 sbl's.
i guess my options are
1) replace cdx with cds2
2) replace hicap with supercap (is this wasted on a 102?)
3) replace 180 with 135's
4) replace 102 with 52

I would imagine that a 52 would improve things the most, but how much £££ for a s/h one??

Any thoughts would be good

cheers

Also consider 82 preamp (with another Hi-Cap, or a Supercap).

I would recommend the following in this order:
- purchase a Supercap for your 102
- replace the 102 with a 52 or 252
- replace the 180 with a 250 or 135s or 300
- replace the CDX with CDS2 or CDS3

thanks for the suggestions Smile
I guess I'm leaning more towards getting a supercap for the 102 and then a 52 (not sure I can afford it in one hit), so could someone tell me how much of a difference it would make?? I know that the 102 won't take full advantage of the supercap, but presumably there is still an improvement over the hicap??

The supercap is wasted on the 102, using one set of criteria.

OTOH, a 102/supercap would probably be preferred to an 82/hicap by a large number of listeners, so if your concern is music reproduction rather than technology, it's not a bad choice, especially if your get the new s'cap (since the old s'cap may become obsolete in a relatively short time).

Regards.

Since you have a really good source. I would suggest going for a 135. Mulletish it may be, but having heard how a 135s drive the SBLs compared to a 200 (although in different setups), my hunch is that the jump would really significant and would be really worth it.

Alex, I agree and that's exactly why I didn't include it above. I agree that the 52 is much better than the 82 and so plan on going straight to the 52. Any ideas on how much I will need to pay for a s/h 52 and/or s/h supercap??

cheers

I don't think the Hi -> Suoercap upgrade on a 102 would prove a very good VFM upgrade in it's own right. Only do this if you definately are going for the 52 later.

Shin--

Definitely Supercap the 102 en route to a 52--you'll hear a lot more music. I Supercapped a 72 and the difference was just amazing. It was not as amazing as actually getting the 52, but it was a dramatic upgrade.

You'll be surprised at how much better your 102 sounds with a Supercap.

Best,

Bob
