DVD5 or n-Vi?

Appreciate input from anyone who has seen the new n-Vi. I currently have AV2/175/150 with a cheap Sony DVD/SACD.

I'm thinking of selling/trading the AV2/175/150 for the n-Vi. Here's my thinking: good as the AV2 is, my AV system gets about 20% of the use that my hi-fi rig does. I'd love to replace 4 boxes with 1, to give more flexibility in terms of racking etc.

Am I crazy? How good is the n-Vi?

No you're not crazy - I use a Linn Classik Movie System even though I know a naim system would be better, but i watch a couple of films a week, whereas the music system is on all the time. Mrs Rotf watches the TV and is happy with the Linn - so it stays. If I ever sneaked in a replacement, it'd be the n-Vi, but need to upgrade the music system first.

Depends what is your priority?, the n-vi sounds like a very good alternative if you prefer music, because of space/paraphernalia ect... Confused,i think the n-vi will be a success because of it'simplicity and no doubt be a very capable performer if cinema and music is your thing. This sounds very good news for music lovers who also like cinema as a 2nd option for entertainment, without all the baggage.
IMO, i think naim will struggle with demand with the n-vi because they have hit a bullseye for that and many customers. (BRILLIANT) Cool

If you look at the other products on the market in the price range of the n-vi, Naim will have it. They are stepping on the toes of a lot of the other hi-end AV-Receiver/All-in-1 boxes, especially the likes of Denon, Pioneer & Yamaha. The naim product looks to be very good value for money in comparison.

From what I hear, the picture quality is up there with the DVD5 but the sound quality isn't, separates are still going to be the best route for the full-on home cinema surround.

It's aimed at those who are either making a foray into the home cinema, want it as a standalone unit or just don't want the number of boxes involved for a complete rig.

I still think though with the n-vi, the n-sats and possibly the n-sub, you will get a superb system with the minumum of fuss.

On a side note my DVD5 is unluckily making a trip back to naim for an issue with the digital audio side. They wanted a fault diagnosis form which includes a system setup diagram which was an interesting bit, have an interesting configuration which the number of things connected. Big Grin Have to make do with a loaned Arcam for the meantime till I get my baby back from the hospital.

Slight correction to this post - looks like it's the digital decoding in the AV2 and not the DVD5 - argh!

Steve.
