HDTV plasma over EDTV?

Has anyone done an A-B test of these two screens viewing an HD signal? Many say that EDTV (on a good plasma such as a Panasonic PWD8UK) does such a good job of the HD signal that the extra cost of the full monty HD screen (1024 x 728 for instance) is not really worth it and costs alot more.

Also the EDTV native resolution (480) will match better to standard DVD players and analogue siganls.

I live in South Africa and I'm really struggling to find a dealer that can demonstrate the advantage of the HDTV against EDTV simply because they can't generate an HD signal to show how both TVs cope.

All comments welcome,

It gets more complicated as a screen with 1024 x 768 pixel resolution will utilize its own built-in scaling (not 1280 x 720 or 1920 x 1080 native), so that you'll really be comparing apples with pomegranites, so to speak.

Similarly, a 872 x 480 EDTV display will need to scale when fed a PAL imageā€“its only serious advantage would be for NTSC, 0 IRE picture quality.
