vinyl and volume knob

Posted by: AJ on 10 April 2003

hi everyone,
well finally last week my preamp phoneboards where delivered. (movin magnet) for in in a nac82.

I must say it sounds great. I now can understand why some people prefer lp's above cd's. (well a bit) so much dynamics of the music it really gets you swinging. really nice.

I have one question though. I have to turn my volume knob much more open to get the same loudness level as i get with playing cd's.
For example: for a cd about 9 o clock is quit loud, on the phone i have to set the volume about 11 o clock for the same level of sound. (i hope you understand i can't really explain well). Is this normal? the sound is good though so i don't think anything is wrong, but just checking.

Vinyl has a much lower output than the standard 2.0mv from line-level sources, such as CD players.

Yea on a 'session' I can goto 1 oclock on vinyl, I wouldn't fancy trying that on CD.

That sounds like a bit of a rarity in these parts.

Got a picture/model number?

hello j.n.
i don't have a picture at the moment, i will try to get one though so i can post it for you. It is an Philips TT series 212. The button's for speed and stop are lighted green when used.
The turn table is fitted with a stanton "EEE" "head unit".
