Copying is flattery, so all respect to Tam!

I'm just about to enjoy a bottle of this with Mrs. CD555 ...

.. while we listen to Portishead – Third.

So, what are you drinking right now?

Since I have pretty much stopped drinking alcohol - this would be it.

Oliver,
How are you finding the slab shops over here price wise? Winker
Stu

Haven't had the need yet to go to the local 'bottle shop'. I left my wine collection with my parents in Germany before I headed down under. They brought me the first few cases - so I should be set for a while. Big Grin

Sat down last night with my cousin and after a few beers and wine + port with some nice stilton and somerset brie opened and consumed a bottle of 12 year old Scapa oh boy it was absolutely stunning the closest i have come to it was a 21 year old glengoyne. We have this great place where I live, called 'The Hop and Hog'. During the day mostly it is a nice little organic caff, which also does lovely lunches. BUT it also sells local real ales, and this weekend has been doing a mini real ale fest (theme: breweries within a 15 mile radius).

After getting back from Leicester from dropping-off no.1 daughetr at univ., Mrs JWM and I have enjoyed...

Iceni Brewery 'Boudicea'* and 'Cascade'*
Bull Box Brewery 'Bagges Bitter'
Wissey Valley Brewery, 'Paradise Bitter'
And, as a guest ale,
'Old Trip' a beer of/for Britain's oldest pub, in Nottingham, 'The Old Trip to Jerusalem'.

Particularly amused when son and his crew walked past the window to see his old man and old dear imbibing with their mates!

*Got some nice carry-out too... Smile

Lucky you James that many microbrews in 15 miles? Wow. One in Pasadena that sold beers from around the world plus their own draught in Pasadena closed up shop a year ago.

Today this is it for me, 2 days of stomach problems.

We have one regional brewer (Elgood's at Wisbech) and about 7 or 8 micros in a 15-20 mile radius.

Those who support the local traditional brewers are also amongst those who support a burgoning natural produce too.

You know where to come when you're planning your next UK trip!

oh yeah, pub hopping would be great. Decades ago a British guy stayed at my aunt and uncle's near San Diego, He didn't have wheels but I took him around. He called our beers "fizzy". I agreed, many are so light. If beers are on tap I ask for the darker ones tho Guiness is too much for me.

So many brew pubs have closed in this recession.

But not as large as my G&T in West Norfolk twilight after a cluck of a fortnight... Winker

The Missus kindly brought home two bottles of plonk. I said thank you very much and asked her what she was having... Middle class binge drinking eh?!!

At least we have the prospect of Leicester Tigers stuffing Worcester tomorrow! (But that's another thread...)
