Thanks Bruce I'll see if I can find a local independent Whiskey/ Wine store.

I have a Clynelish 14 year old on the go, and a fine drop it is too.

Serge Valentin runs an excellent and very informative site called Whskyfun ( http://www.whiskyfun.com/ ) It is a good read and a cracking starting point for research on whisky.

Just spent the whole afternoon in London Christmas shopping, this would be exactly what I need now.

I hope you realise that a Springbank 21 is relatively rare and will set you back up to £300.

Where are all these crazy prices coming from? I build up a nice collection of about 100 rare single malts in the late 90s when I lived in the UK and I'm still living of them - I checked some of the prices and was almost falling of my chair.

Anyway, they should keep me happy for a few more years to come. Smile

Combination of 1) big rise in the collectors market, fueled by Ebay etc... i.e whiskies will be bought but never drunk and 2) greedy drinks companies realising they can release a whole load of 'limited editions' and whack up their prices as a consequence of 1. eg. Diageo releasing a £300 quid bottle of Oban.

The bubble could be bursting though, last month Edrington announced Tamdhu will close, could be the first of many casualties.

Finished work today, and received my second promotion since starting work on the Apaches in March.... A nice bottle of Hendrick's gin found its way into my basket in Waitrose. Yum.

Hi deadlifter,

If I remember correctly I picked it up duty free at an airport. I think it was in the region of £50 for the 1 litre bottle. I'm particularly fond of the Islay malts, especially Caol Ila and Bruichladdich. I'd like to give Port Charlotte a go next.
Posted on: 23 December 2009 by deadlifter
Yes i quite like the islay malts Laphroaig quarter
cask being very nice and i have just bought a bottle of Ardbeg so will start that tonight Hmm

Which Ardbeg did you get? I have an Uigeadail open at the moment and it is very tasty.

Islay malts are my favourite and I have been trying to decide what to open as a dram over Christmas. It looks like it is going to be a bottle of Caol Ila 18 year old.

Your offering sounds really good but having read the tasting notes the nosing says mild sweaty cigar, now i also love decent expensive cigars but have yet to come across a mild sweaty one Eek
so tell me more and the cost as now i have taken redundancy to look after my 17 week old boy while the Mrs goes back to work in April i think my little indulgence`s will be out the window and down the road Roll Eyes Big Grin
