"NEW" CDS1

Posted by: Brucie on 16 July 2003

Dear All,

I just wanted to share my excitment of having just changed my CD3 to a CDS1 (linked to 72/hi/180)

Wow!..as you might expect.

After months of deliberating of whether to go for a CDX or get a CDS1 for the price of a bare CDX, the choice was finally made.

However this was all done without listening to either a CDX or a CDS1!! I had no opportunity to listen to either machines since I live in S.Africa. So this is a prime example of someone using opinions of forum members and having faith in Naim equipment (after all the CDS is still 10 years old but has had a full servcie).

Crazy I know and ultimately I still have not heard a CDX/XPS but I'm very happy with my choice. Whilst the CD3 has given me years of enjoyment, the CDS1 really is in another league. I can see why people say that it gets you out of the digital presentation (compared to my LP12/Ittock/homemadeGeddon/DV20H).

I'm using the grey interconnect and grey burndy but will wait a little longer before I buy the new S-CDPS burndy.

Is it worthwhile using something else other than the standrad grey interconnect?

Next upgrade, besides cables, will be a supercap to replace the hi and then a 52 for the 72. Aro/prefix before the 52 though.

Cheers
Bruce

I forgot to mention that the UK dealer who had this used CDS1 was superbly helpful in arranging the full service over just one week (fast tracked by Naim) and then organising the air shipment.

Peter et al at Cymbiosis in Leicester are wholeheartedly recommended.

Bruce,
The CDS1 is an excellent player. Don't worry about having missed out on CDX/XPS-your machine shits all over them. Just make sure you keep the nextel ring clean, and don't leave your pucks in the player when you're not using it. The CDS1 can develop problems with accessing tracks, and you don't want to exacerbate these. With mine I just play CDs from beginning to end because the whine...ERR is too frustrating to get into when you select a particular track.
Enjoy it.
Cheers, Jens
