Currently I am in the England on a working holiday. Work is in PADSTOW CORNWALL. Im really loving it here. I knew England would have enormous historical interest but i wasnt prepared for the great natural beauty of the place but thats another story. Ive spotted a nait 2 for sale at a dealers. £200 its 5-6 yrs old he said. Would the nait drive my royd doublets at home which memory tells me were 100 watts into 6 ohms. Also would it be a good match for my planet 2000 cd player. Finally I have a ortofon T30 mc transformer with me that I was hoping to sell while here what might I expect to get for it?

The age claim does indeed look suspect. I also had a 1988 Nait 2. Subsequently went the route of 62/Snaps/140 which was a small gain in detail & ambience but no gain in musicality. Now have a Nait 5 and I'm really not sure what to make of it, it sounds "OK" but I cannot get as emotional about it. Having said that, I really haven't had much time to give the Nait 5 a real listening (new baby & work pressures getting in the way). I sold my Nait 2 for about £140 last year, now looking at about £200 to replace it, but only after I do a back-back with my Nait 5. Memory can be an unrelaible thing you know. The only down point of the Nait 2 is a poor channel imbalance I had at low volumes, which, after looking at this forum, seems to be a common fault. It's a superb amp. Go for it.

Hi, welcome to the UK. I hope you have a great time in Cornwall. Some v good sea food restaurants in Padstow if I remember correctly.
I think Naim did introduce the Nait 3 in about 1993, but I prefer the Nait 2 anyway.
Assuming you are buying to take home I'd probably hold fire and see what else comes available - but the 2 is a bit special in my opinion.

I'd definitely go for it - the last couple on Ebay have made over 200 quid so you could easy get your cash back if for any reason you didn't like it. Naim changed the look in 1989 so you can get a quick indication of its age - if it has chrome bumpers like a 32.5 is pre 89, if its got an olive green facia and a totally black case its post 89. My guess is that new look adds about £50-60 to the second hand value (I think the last new style one on Ebay went for about £270).
I'm a total fan of the Nait 1 and 2 and personally wouldn't recommend spending any more on an amp until your sources are really maxed out. I'm sure it will drive your Royds happily enough, its low rated power seems to have little relevance to what comes out the speakers. The channel balance issue is hit and miss too, I suspect some are better than others as mine seems fine. The volume control is too hot though, its blowing you out the door at quarter to!
Tony.
