Shrieeeeeeekfest!

Posted by: Sister E. on 24 June 2009

After suffering one set of sheer unadulterated shrieking from Sharapova in the Women's singles I turned over to one of the men's matches as I was beginning to fear for my hearing. I'm fed with this racket(pun intended)which seems nothing more than gamesmanship. I'm glad the shrieking Sharapova got her just desserts. The Wimbledon crowd couldn't wait to get rid of her as well.

This sister has finally given up watching women's tennis for this very reason.Very sad!

It is annoying isn't it . Hopefully the rules officials will do something about it .
It's all Nick Bollettieri's fault , all of the grunter's come from his stable .

If that's taken before her kick it's S&M , if it's after it's A&E .

I was waiting for someone to post a pic of "The Scream" or is it "The Shriek"?

Dear munch - that is a scream, not a schriech!

Shirley, my dear, would be better!

In a non-gay sort of voice, of course, for the politcally correct! Though I must state that some of my best friends are [or were until a few minutes ago] a bit gay!

No doubt some people will never invite me to their house[es] again after this!

PS: I won't tell you what I got called today! But menace did not come into it!

I also remember when the players had personalities! Becker, MacEnroe, Connors, Pat Cash, OK there was Edberg, but all the men are Edberg clones now.

I could never bring myself to support Henman, and find this sulky Scot little better.

Although far worse for the screeching I find women's tennis to at least have more personalities and often more entertaining games. That said, when they start shreeking, I turn it off.

...I have to rise to the bait....why on earth do you think he is sulky?

Especially in light of the fact that you are complaining that the Connor's, McEnroe's and Becker's of this world are no longer playing? There were few bigger sulks than those guys....but they were all winners I seem to recall...

Here we have a British player, No 3 in the rankings, who at 21 has won more tournaments that Henman won in his entire career, who has a great all around game, a great tactical brain.....I really don't get the lack of recognition.

Maybe it's because we all expect underachievement and don't know how to handle successful sportsman?

Cheers

I have no problem with Murray's achievements, it is his lack of personality that I object to.

MacEnroe may have had tantrums, but he was, and is very interesting to hear talk. Becker had fun on court and was a very interesting in interviews. I had the feeling that they, even at a young age, had interests in life other than tennis, and when on court they both had infectious personalities.

Henman was painfully dull, and I find Murray the same, no personality. Yes good at tennis, but that is not enough for me to take any interest in him. I know being a tennis player is their job, but they seem to be that and no more than that.

To be honest, I don't think tennis is the only sport that is starting to be played by those who have been trained purely to play from a young age at a detriment to them getting a rounded start in life, but I do find it more obvious in tennis, perhaps because they were preceded by a generation of great personalities and entertainers.

There is no anti Scottish in the comment, I am fairly proud of my Scottish heritage.

Jamie

Is his current show of emotion helping you warm to him at all? It's 1 set all against Warincka so I don't know the outcome but you can't deny his will to win to his emotion at this point.

Cheers

Just taking a quick break, and about to eat some words. This is the first tennis match that has gripped my attention for ages.

Yes Murray is showing some emotion, and there are some great rallies.

One set all, a fresh pot of tea to keep me going.
