AV LED Backlighting
Posted by: Occean on 02 October 2010
I am thinking of seting up some LED backlighting on my TV.
The Apollo light kits seem highly regarded on the AV forums. Has anyone had any experiences? I cannot decide if the will be great or just plain awful.....
Cheers

Do you mean in terms of following the the action or just nice mood lighting?
I got a real of leds from china with controller for 60 quid, these hide behind the slightly raised panel wall that the TV sits in so it gives what ever colour glow you want. very effective but not connected to the TV in anyway.

I have a Philips 42" Ambilight on my wall. I turned off the ambilight function because I found it annoying, particularly during atmospheric film sequences in low room light. The lighter colors in particular white and yellow are the most distracting.

I fail to see the point of them, other than it is another selling "feature".

Cheers guys for the feedback
garyi it seems your setup is exactly what I am looking at. Decided for £60 I will give it a go and if I hate it, straight back on ebay.

Occean did you get the 3M LED strip?
They really are very good. mine came with a remote controlled control unit which makes it flash or slowly change or sit on one colour. However I found the code was the same as some of my TVs so I just switch on when ever now.
One of the best purchases I have made in a long time was an LED tv they are sooo thin so I was able to create what is in effect a door on a wall with the TV and centre speaker set in (please excuse the shitness of these pictures):
And on the back side of my chintsy suede number is this little lot, notice the Wii, harddrive and mini are out of site, just how I like it:
The LED strip hids in a gap unless you bend your head like I have with the camera all you actually see is a glow in what ever colour you have chosen, they really are great.

garyi: looks like someone made a finished product from your do-it-yourself wall-rack idea...

Only problem with the Cinewall is the terrible face ache one has after installing it as you have to smile or grin continuously while installing it.
However apart from that it looks very competent.

derek: didn't watch the "film" on the website up to your hint... reminds me on jack nicholson as joker
I also liked the magical cable routing! You stuff a new cable in the upper hole, and it automatically comes out at the right hole down in the mediabox.
Never saw a 1.1 surround system before. 1 ridiculously small center with 1 subwoofer. When I would place my Axent on that, it would probably rip the mediabox down...
