Shahinian

While browsing the Shahinian site, the Super Elf is pictured with an Ikea stand. This will tilt the baffle so that it will face upward, just like the other Shahinian speakers. By using the Ikea stand instead of using a conventional stand, will you get a Shahinian kind of sound? At least a taste of it?

The Elves sounded superb on Ikea stands to me a couple of weeks ago. I heard them at my dealers on the end of an Arcam alpha CD, Rega 3 and Nait 2 . My dealers doing me a home demo on Tuesday and as long as they dont come up with any room interface nasties they'll be the one for me.

It seems that at £6 the Ikea stands have to be the bargain of the century

I'd be surprised, but not totally shocked, if you did get that diffuse Shahinian sound from these speakers, given that they're fairly regular looking and lack the upward firing drivers which I take to be the main reason that Shahinians sound as they do.

Are you thinking of getting a pair, then? If I ever tire of my Compasses (which are a bit hit or miss IMHO right now) then I'll let everyone know here (Jason H. has first refusal, though smile )

Super Elfs are pretty fine speakers, but need very good sources. There placement is crucial too. In the room that I listened to them in, they worked best with a solid stand, and a couple of feet from the wall. I think they sing most 'cost efficiently' with 72/140....

They are very transparent, and a little light sounding, but very revealing like a intro/credo. I prefer these to the Intros last time I heard them.

They don't do the 'diffuse' Shahinian sound, but if you want a combination of depth and detail, these babies are good for that, but as David Bowie said 'Watch that Source'. (man)

I'm curious about them. I would like to experience the Shahinian sound. However, there isn't any distributor in the region.

Do let us know when you are tired of it. smile
