Best Match for DVD5

Posted by: joesilva on 03 July 2005

Having recently seen a demo of the DVD5 in my home against my present Lexicon RT-10, I've decided to get rid of my old AV gear and start afresh. As I am not very well in tune with current AV gear, I would value the recommentadion of forum members.

I will likely pair the DVD5 with either a Sim2 HT300 EXTRA or a Marantz 12S4. Any comments on the performance/compatibility of these two projectors with the DVD5 will be greatly appreciated. Viewing distance will be around 17ft. and I plan to get a Stewart 130 with a 96inch diagonal (based on 16:9).

Should I site the DVD in my existing FRAIM set up, close to the rest of my Naim audio equipment and run a 20ft video link to the projector ? The alternative is to have the DVD5 connected by a 2m interconnect to the projector, and run the audio through 20ft of cable to my 552.

Will the digital output be superior to the analogue video output ?

Any recommendations and advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks !

Joe

Call me biassed (we are a Naim dealer after all!) but we've done a fair bit of research into projectors and our money is on the JVC Professional HX2 or HD2K. It has a DVI input compatible with the DVD5 (HDCP compatible) and a stunning picture. I'd use a DVI cable 20' long (They're OK to about 7 or 8 metres if good quality) and keep your audio cables short. The digital output to the projector will definitely be better than the analogue one as it avoids two digital / analogue conversions.
Hope this helps ! Alan. Smile

I'm waiting for my dvd 5 to connect to a sim2 ht300e.
I've got an 80" 16/9 screen, the viewing distance is 4 metres.
Actually i'm using a philips dvd sa963 and I'm enough glad.
I'll keep you informed once I'll have the new dvd 5 and the cables to connect to the projector (I don't know which cable is the best!).
