A cunningly simple idea

I think I have had a brainwave - it's so simple I can't believe it hasn't been thought of before and if it has been, then it's been disregarded for one reason or another. I am sure the brethren of Naim will enlighten me if this is so. Anyhow, onto the brainwave...
I was talking to a mate of mine and we were extrapolating the series of events should our beloved Naims be stolen. Call Police, Crime Reference No etc, phone the insurers blah blah blah.
Then we discussed what would happen to our kit, and this is where the brainwave struck. Anybody who sells any Naim kit will inevitably have been asked,"Can I have the serial number please?" Naim keep a record of every unit they make. How about being able to 'flag' your stolen serial no with Naim so that when someone tries to check it (innocently of course) they can be informed that it is stolen property and be obliged to hand over the contact details of the vendor.
As I say, I'm sure it must have been thought of before, but it would prevent stolen Naims being so saleable, and most people don't want to buy stolen goods. I think it could work...
