Nordost Blue Heaven
Posted by: MontyW on 10 February 2004
OK here goes - whilst at the Manchester Hi-Fi show I was chatting to a guy who was 'really' advocating using Nordost Blue Heaven interconnects between Naim CDs and pre-amps and the same Nordost speaker cable. Have any of you tried this combination and moved away from Naim cables. My system is currently: CDX2 + XPS, 202 Hi Cap 200 and back to Intro IIs after trying other speakers - all on Mana racks. So is it worth a try changing Naim cables?

David,
I have not tried Nordost cabling with naim gear, but in the past, I have tried plethora of Nordost including Quatro Fil and Valhalla in both solid state and tubed based systems.
Whilst they gave good transient attacks and definition, I thought they made a system sounds too nervous and artificial sounding.
With newer Naim gear where they tend to be warmish, Nordost might be a good complement. ( Windex effect ) But boy.. except Valhalla they all gave opaque and not too well developed leading edges. I am not so sure if that's a good thing with Naim gear...
that said, cabling is a funny thing. You really ought to try 'em in your gear and decide. Same cables behave completely dissimilar in various system configurations.

The intention of the technicians is to create components. Therefore they need to know about Physics. And a litle bit about hearing.
The intention of the sellers is to make money with the Products. Therefore they need t9o know about Marketing, and the taste of their customers.
the intention of the Buyers (us)is to get the best Sound. therefore we (should) judge with our ears. the only Tool to judge sound.
And exactly hear starts the Mad house.
Instead to be happy that we have only one
parameter to judge (the sound),with the experience of our ears,we walk to the wordl
of physics or we think over the arguments of marketing, not recognising that there are people that are a lot more experienced in there
home battle field, and therfore always happy to get us there.
On the other Hand those techicians and sellers
know that they will be often very happy not to
go to our battlefield (hearing is believing)
well knowing that neither Physics nor marketing
can change the taste of an customer who judges only by hearing.

This hobby of ours is complicated enough, just use Naim cable throughout, then sit back and enjoy the music. Maybe with a wee dram bought with the money saved.
Remember, don't confuse the issue!!
Cheers Robert

Goldstar is correct. Just use the Naim cables and start obsessing about things you should be obsessing about such as whether Fraim is better than Mana or Hutter....

Goldstar is not Quite correct.
in his eichmann plug threat he is also intrested in other plugs than original naim ones ,maybe he uses other cables.

But you are both right i drifted a little bit away from the discussion theme.

I have only replaced the existing rca plugs connecting the 52 pre to my Arcam CD player.i.e the other end of the standard Naim interconnect wire is fitted with a standard Naim DIN plug.
My Naim dealer watches like a hawk so I don't stray from the straight and narrow.
Cheers Robert
