52 update or other options

Posted by: Not For Me on 24 July 2003

My 52 is of a mature vintage, and I was considering doing the main board and pots update.

Can anyone with experience of this let me know the benefits (I shall ask Naim for the cost, after the holiday).

How much more enjoyment can I anticipate, or should I throw in the money toward Groove -> Groove +, or Arkiv B - Akiva ?

Choices, Choices ?

Pot boards are around £200ish I think.
It may be more cost effective to sell and buy a newer model if more major surgery is required.

The Pots Board upgrade is the only thing part from a service that we would recommend. The logic/control board update can be very expensive and only really gives you a little more remote control functionality with no real gain in sound performance.

As someone with an eye on a second hand 52, which serial numbers correspond to the newer pots board being fitted as standard.

Well, I have had the pots and caps update done, and the first impressions after an hour or two are very favourable.

Much 'tighter sounding' and timing and togtherness of the music is better.

and The Wife & I had a nice cup of tea whilst sorting it out, so thanks to Naim for that.
