Gosh isnt singapore nice?

Clean, interesting, vibrant. And Raffles is completely barking mad.

Absolutely LOVE the place....! (for years, living and travelling in Asia, I avoided going there, always believing/wary of comments on it being sterile and boring...but after going once a few years back for a break from BKK, I was really taken with the place...)

Jon - go for a wander at the Aldephi Centre....HiFi shopping heaven !

Enjoy Smile

Steve.

p.s. It's a shame Joe Silva isn't still partly based there - would have been a good guy for you to meet up with...!

Jon,

I'm up in KL. If you are heading this way let me know. Defineitely go the Adelphi if you can. Just up the road from Raffles.

Yes meant to say, the Adelphi is off Coleman street (funnily enough!), opposite the Peninsula ...

SC -- I hope to meet with Joe in Hong Kong in late may time when I am doing a round-the-world trip (cos I'm going to Taipei and then New Orleans, so london/hongkong/taipei/tokyo/houston/neworleans/manhattan/london kindof makes sense... kindof...)

Enjoy Jon !...And rack up those miles..!

Steve.
Posted on: 13 March 2010 by jon h
the two seats in first from london to singapore return were purely miles redemption (one on miles, one on ba/amex companion ticket match). Since gobbling up those miles (225k, if i remember right) last autumn, I've now got enough for us to do 2xfirst to Sydney (300k+companion)

hey ho. Now next sunday will be fun -- singapore to london in the middle of the ba strike.

Colin, I'll be in the Hilton around 3pm or so. Might trundle to see Petronas towers. Will check here then, and my email is in my profile. Would be great to meet if u are free.

Jon,

Sent you an mail. My phone is +60 (0)19 298 8682. I presume you are staying at the Hilton next to the KL Sentral train station. There is a direct train link (the KLIA express) from KLIA to the station, 30 yds from the hotel. most handy and only 28 minutes and 35 RM (7 quid).

Give me a call whenever and we can arrange something.

taking lots of pics!

this is only a very fleeting visit -- was arranged last autumn, before dad declined and then passed away, when it was getting more difficult to be away. So its only 2 weekends and a week inbetween, to do singapore, KL, hanoi and saigon. Mad, i know, but still fun.

Its always hot and humid here. Presently the hotter season and it gets up to about 35C, and all the way down to about 27C at night Big Grin

And what a fab evening with Colin and his delightful wife and very well behaved toddler!

Excellent sounds at Chateau Lorenson, and a most excellent chinese meal afterwards.

Open invite for him to have a Dibble Experience when he next travels to UK, methinks!

:-)

Most gracious sir and it was very much our pleasure.

We will look forward to sampling your DBL's maybe in June.

Enjoy the rest of your holidays in Vietnam.

Haven't manage to make it there yet. Have heard only good things about it.

My next trip East which is still under negotiation is a high status visit to Biejing and Shanghai in May courtesy of the Chinese Govt.

Nice shots Jon, especially from the KL tower.

Sad to see that, as always, my ugly mug spoils every shot that I am in Big Grin

You're not referring to my Son I presume?

Its a Plinius SA250IV, and very nice it is too, and when you think about it, not much bigger than a 500 and 500PS put together Winker

At Ventian (or something) in Laos. Fog at Hanoi. 3 failed attempts at landing... scary... refulling here then having another go... I may be some time...

now in hanoi - this city is utterly utterly utterly barking mad
Posted on: 15 March 2010 by SC
But very beautiful.....More so some years ago, although compared to HCMC it is still dragging it's heels on the rush into becoming another high rise metropolis.....

Make sure you go for a sunrise wander around Hoan Kiem lake and on to the old quarter - charming...And check out the fantastic coffee whilst watching the world go by from many of the great cafes....

Great pics from KL Jon.....

And what a lovely room Colin ! - You suddenly have me missing Asian cities and apartments..! Frown Smile

Jon,

Glad you made it safely and hope you enjoy the Hanoi experience.

By the way I forgot to mention, in the basement of the Adelphi in Singapore is a used camera shop that specializes in Leica lenses and there is another one in Peninsular Plaza just across the road. PP also has two shops that sell second hand very high-end watches. Could be an expensive trip home Big Grin

SC, thanks for the comment - whats pictured is the only place I could set up the system and its the "base" of the "L" in an L shaped room.
Jon noted it as a bit echoey, but its the best I can do just now. Hard floors and glass are hard to fight.

SC -- we are in the Hotel Elegance 4 which is in the old quarter itself!

more pix (and I did some 1080p video too) to come.
