question for ken c

I saw your comments re muting the aux in record mode. I have an 82/super. I tried it- dont think I hear a difference. What is the basis for this tweak? What differences do you hear? Let us all know, as this tweak is as cheap as they come! david.

david, bosh and alex:

didnt think anyone would pay any attention to this.

on my system, the change is audible. i notice it more on solo piano music, where resonant properties of the piano wood becomes a little more evident, and dominates any boxiness from the speakers. for other music, i have to admit, the i cant tell any difference either, although i always have the record mutes that way.

i picked this up from doug graham of naim audio.

if you cant hear any difference, dont worry... could be system dependent.

just enjoy...

How is this tweak done? Do you press mute and aux at the same time? I have an 82 and see no harm in giving it a go - how do you return it back to its natural state.

A slight variation to this tweak.

Don't select Aux on the record selector, select the same input as the one being listened to (but still 'mute' the record circuit).

This tip was passed to me by Larry at Audio Counsel and I think it applies to the 52 only as it relates to ground-loops

woodface, i think allan probin has explained but, on your preamp, assuming at least 82, select a source to listen to - top row of buttons. on the bottom row, select aux and mute it. note the variation from allan probin on what record source to mute. i have only done this on a 52 -- dunno if it applies to 82. allan thinks not.
