Another thread on racks.

My setup
P25/CD5/92R/90/ES14.
I am thinking of getting the quadraspire Q4.
How does it compare to the Target? (I know they arent in the same price range)

I was almost about to post it when i did a search and !! came upon this.

unfortunately i only lasted 7 pages. I am looking for a decent rack at a decent price. Both mana and Fraim is way too expensive for me. If I could have afforded them, I would have gotten a 82 or 52 and a 250 instead.

Anyway, I don’t have much choices back where I am.

Target as we know has closed down and I could only find a 4 tier rack which is one tier short of what I need. Ideally, I need a tier each for the P25, CD5, 92R, 90 and accessories (ie my GSP phono and its power supply) so the target is one tier short.

I can order a 5 tier quadrashire rack from UK and have it shipped over. I read that the Rega TTs need a table that is light but rigid. Does quadraspire qualify in that aspect? And is the quadraspire Q4 the same as the QS ref that I see being mentioned? I can’t find any info of the QS ref from their website.
And does the column diameter matter? Which should I choose, 19mm or 32 mm?

What other options do I have?

Thanks for that Quadraspire link.

The damn thing froze up my PC and I had to press the reset button. (That's the 1st time it's froze since I did a re-install 6 months ago.)

Why not build one.
I use a simple design of three threaded bars for the uprights, MDF shelves with three oversize holes for the supports to pass through. Shelves lightly gripped by nuts and washers above and below. All components on Pulsar Points, but any cone or ball-bearing device would do.
Looks ugly, but sounds at least as good as my Quadraspire.

The Quadraspire is a good bit better than the Target in my view. The Target is good for putting things on it, but the Quadraspire actually improves the sound. I'm a convert to the non-ferrous argument for racks, finding that racks with high iron content cause a harshness in the mid-high treble.

The QS Ref is a much more expensive rack than the standard Q4. It has different spacers and the shelves have cutouts. Personally I prefer the standard rack to the Reference, and for Reference money I'd prefer the Hutter.

The standard Quadraspire Q4 is a good basic performance rack. Buy with confidence.

Have you considered Apollo stands?

I had my Naim gear on an Apollo stand before purchasing my Fraim.

It did the job well, cost about £100 and looks good as well.
