A little while back I said that I would post information of Bristol cafes, pubs & restaurants. After some consideration I thought it might be best to recommend a venue that is all three rolled into one.
May I suggest All Bar One. It is a wine bar about 5 minutes walk from the show. It is a refurbishment of the old Corn Exchange in Bristol. Outside the wine bar are the original 'nails'. These are waist high bronze columns where corn was traded. From these came the expression "paying on the nail".
The wine bar has high ceilings & refectory tables. Coffee, wine, beers & food are served from noon - 11.00pm Friday & Saturday. unfortunately it is closed on Sunday. No reservations are necessary.
All Bar One is at 47 Corn Street. Tel 0117 9468751.
For those who are looking for an evening meal with some live music, I can thoroughly recommend Tantric Jazz.
At Tantric Jazz there is a fixed price for your meal & live music is in the form of jazz duos, trios & quartets. The music is usually not too trad & repertoire ranges from Miles Davis to the ECM recording artists. The atmosphere is very informal & cozy. You may even wish to dance a little, this is quite normal!
Tantric Jazz is about 8 minutes walk from the show at 39-41 St Nicholas Street. Tel 0117 9402304. It is open on Friday, Saturday & Sunday evenings. It is advisable to book & bookings are taken any day after 4.00pm.
May I suggest that I arrange a table for forum members on Saturday evening. I'm sure that it will be a lot more fun ( & cheaper ) than one's hotel restaurant. Please let me know if anyone would like me to arrange this.

Bob,
As far as I'm concerned it sounds like a fantastic idea. I'm bringing a colleague of mine with me, so provisionally book 2 places.
That is providing the restaurant won't go on for too late (need to get back to London).

Hi Andrew,
Thanks for replying to my meal suggestion at Tantric Jazz.
Unfortunately you appear to be the only person who seems 'up for it', everyone else's loss, I say!
Due to the sadly poor response to my offer I will not be booking a 'forum table' at the restaurant. I was kind of hoping that an eprez show meal at this delightful place might become a bit of an annual tradition, oh well....
Please feel free to make a reservation there if you wish. I hope you will enjoy your visit to my home city & might catch up with you at the show.
Kind regards,
Bob

Oh well, looks like I'll be having baked beans on toast at my place instead . No problem and thanks for the thought.

It will be my first time in Bristol and am looking forward to it - after hearing good things about the place.

Bob,
Don't despair yet - I'd be up for it and am coming with two wives( not both mine!) and a mate so assuming I can get clearance from the management that's another 4! Also a lot of forum members read the forum more in the week rather than weekends so may not have seen your post yet.
After the forum session at 4pm I planned to head to the Marriott bar and it would be nice after that to go for a bite - who knows maybe Paul, Doug et al will join us.
Good idea by the way,
Jonathan

Andrew & Jonathan,
Great news!!! Instead of the normal jazz repertoire on Saturday, there is a North African Soul Band playing! I love things like this, not sure quite what to expect & hardly ever disappointed.
The band kick off their set at 9.00 pm & I have booked a table for 8 @ 8.00 pm. I thought that would give us an hour of food & conversation before the start.
I am being a little presumptuous here hoping to get 8 takers, but with 2 from Andrew's party & 4 from Jonathan's, my wife & I that is already 8.
Of course the more the merrier so please let me know if anyone else would like to come. Please let me know if it is a definite booking as I have to pay a deposit, & I would not be a happy bunny if I get stood up!
Best wishes
Bob.

Bob,
OK, a final confirmation is needed from my colleague. So, I will let you know by email tomorrow.
The North African Soul Band sounds very intriguing.

Bob,
Sadly my colleague has decided to drop out of the whole event due to family commitments
This means that I will have to use the trains and have to depart from Bristol at 20:30. So, I only have a 5-8pm time window available.
Sorry about this,
Andrew
