Desktop music

Hello gang

Having begun to put my CD'S onto my Imac the next question I have is how do I get decent "desktop" sound? Does anyone have pointers for desktop speakers and anything else that I can add ( DAC?).
Once this is all done I will then ask about streaming music but thats for another day.

Many thanks for any advice.

I have a friend with some Fostex powered monitors out of his Mac mini. Sounds fine for MP3 playback, movies etc...

I use a pair of B&O BeoLab 3 speakers and a BeoLab 2 (sub) for desktop computer playback. I run the optical out of the iMac to a Benchmark DAC1, then out to the speakers. Sounds wonderful & looks great.

I'm going to use a UnitiQute and a pair of Totem Dreamcatchers.
