Nursing my first cold in more than a year. I guess I have been lucky (ish).
A large shot of Amarreto sent me happily to sleep last night but what do you do to treat a cold?

You can only manage the symptoms, so ag's got it right.

This is some (partially conflicting) empirical evidence that zinc glutonate glycine tablets can reduce the duration of head colds.
Results of a '92 study Results of an '02 study on childrenFWIW, I've found taking zinc lozenges at the first signs of symptoms does seem to help.

Several, very large good Malt Whiskys, doesn't
help to cure the cold, but it certainly
makes you feel better. Zinc is best left on roofing nails.

Echinacea does the job for us. It works as both preventative and cure.

Worst bit is that your hearing is faulty for a couple of weeks. Might as well watch the telly
