What's next: Home audio network with HDX and DAC; future thoughts?

Hi there
Currently we have at home the following network:
Works beautifully, but in my view, the digital distribution and distributed part can be better.
One of the disadvantages is that the Logitech Duet has some limitations in truput (due to the wireless connection). It is not possible to make it wired. This limitations makes that cd's played on the CD2 still sound a lot better than the music that is on the NAS and played via the Duet (ripped lossless). However, what if one could shortcut the the Duet with a .... HDX (wired or wireless, depending on the private situation, hence the red dotted line):
This way the HDX works like a distributor, but with high quality, and it is used to 'download' your cd's in very high quality to your NAS.It needs a connection with a NAS, and behave like a command station in line with the NAS.
Are these thougtht science fiction, or would this be possible in the (near) future? And what about the idea that the sound quality will be a lot better than in the current situation?
cheers, Musfed
ps: with tnx to my girlfriend, who made the overview and is the brains behind the digital part of the hifi and installed the network.....
