Posted by: Gunnar Jansson on 21 October 2006

I thought I share this one with you.

Released this week in Sweden, not any idea if gets abroad or not. (Probably not getting any press outside Sweden) On their own Moule recordings.

Fire In The Hole Sara Isaksson and Rebecka Törnqvist sing Steely Dan.

I like it a lot! Very sparse arranged. Mainly just the two very accomplished singers and their keyboards and the SONGS.

To Fred Simon: I gather you´ll like this one.

I did. On October 26, in my sent messages. I found it. I had totally forgotten but went to the site, found the email link, copied it, searched my email and there it was. Case closed. Sorry for the confusion.

You must have found one too?

I can't remember entering the competition but pretty sure I must have and then deleted the message from the sent messages folder in my brain.

Thank you all you fine Inspector Clouseau's for putting up with me. Big Grin

Being a hardcore Dan fan, and having been put onto Sara Isaksson by Fred Simon, I clicked eagerly on the video link and was not dissappointed. Sounds like a must-have CD and the order is going in.

Thanks for the heads up guys.

Just checking back in on this ... finally got a copy and I love it! So many things to enjoy ... first of all, their remarkable voices, the spareness of the accompaniment (sounds like it was recorded in someone's living-room on a spinet, pedal thumps and all), and, most of all, Fagen and Becker's wonderful songs ... you can really focus on the songs, which are so musically inventive and still fresh. Plus, it kills me the way Sara Isaksson pronounces "Oregon" in Don't Take Me Alive.

Gunnar, thanks so much for the tip.

All best,
Fred

I managed to buy my sister a copy in time for Christmas and she sang along till it finished. So Gunnar I extend my thanks also. I like the fender rhodes stereo effect via headphones of Green Earrings, beautifully haunting.
The sound and performance is so clean and wonder if it's due to the HDCD recording. There's no indication on the CD, but the led on my CD5X lights up.

Love the album- I can see why a lot of Steely fans rate it highly.

Been away on holiday and have not been to the forum for about three weeks. Saw that the fire in the hole thread got new contributions.

Everyone thank you for your thanks to me.
(If it´s the right expression. Im trying hard to get it right here)

But Törnqvist and Isaksson is imo the one´s that should find this thread and read your comments. I´m just the one that took up the thread.

I just thought this one was much too good to miss out.

I just wish you could read the article pinned on my first initial post on this thread. But as it is in swedish....

Im not a translator so bare with me and excuse me if I don´t get it right all the way.

Sara: What I like about Steely Dan and these songs are that it´s music composed by someone trying to do their very best. That someone has really worked with the melodies. That the lyrics are ambitious. That it is allowed to be good.

Best regards to you all

That CD was the hit of Christmas at my house! Everybody who heard it wanted a copy. And for the folks who listen to XM and think they have heard everything cool, it is great to have something that is just at the next level from anything in their experience. I ordered 6 from skivhugget just to have in stock for gifts. $21 each delivered with the vat rebate almost offsetting the shipping. Great sound. Nice looking talent. And the wow factor is priceless.

I do not get the HDCD reading on my CDS2. Wonder why? I have the new transport and firmware update for copy protected cds.

Thanks again for this recommendation.

Yes it is in Älvedalsmål and it´s a dialect in a small area of the northern Sweden that is so far from swedish that I can´t understand what she´s singing either.
But the cd comes with english and also swedish translation of the lyrics.

Windogur is that dialects name for window wich is to me closer to english than swedish and wich we Swedes call fönster.

Anyway. Glad you liked the musical part.
