Home Plugs?

Dear Forum

I'm thinking about getting into streaming with a Unitiqte (when they're available). I have a router, resonable brodband speed and a 1tb NAS with c200gb of music stored (although I think that it will need to be copied/converted to FLAC/WAV or similar for use with the uniti).

I've tested streaming to my PS3, which has worked ok, but there has been some 'drop out' of the signal which would prevent me spending this much cash on a system if it can't be sorted.

So my question is . . . would home plugs be a solution to this? My understanding is that you use an ethernet cable to link the plug to the router/NAS, send the data through the house mains cables to another plug, which is connected to the Uniti via another ethernet cable.

Is this right? If it is, does anyone have any recommendations on what plugs work best? What speed plugs are needed - they seem to range from 85 to around 200 MBps?

Sorry if this is a 'simple' question, but that's how I am with technology.

many thanks

Nigel

Keep in mind that any Ethernet-over-mains solution will affect sound quality on devices with linear power supplies (e.g., UnitiQute and most other Naim amps).

Previous recommendations on this forum for Ethernet-over-mains connections largely served the perennial needs of HDX / NS0x / UnitiServe disc ripping, which only requires occasional Internet access to acquire metadata for ripped discs–with the caveat that one would disconnect both ends of the link in order to insure optimum sound quality.

Wired Ethernet is the best option, when possible.
