Very sad indeed, that financial greed could potentially spoil what should be another great movie.
I urge you all to sign the petition, here, please....

Oh c'mon. Let's have a different vision. How about the following;
A Spike Lee version. 'Hobbits in the Hood'. A hobbit basketball team takes on (and surprisingly beats) a team of 8 foot wizards.
Tarantino. Hobbits in sharp suits sit around in a burger bar discussing the murderous ability of various dagger designs before slaying each other in a dispute over the bill.
Mike Leigh. Unshaven hobbits lurk around grimy council estates dicussing benefit cheques and the footie results. One discovers he is actually not illegitimate and dies of shame.
Scorcese. Hobbit gangleader draws his family around him to resist the elf-police crime busting campaign. He fails to notice the tall recruit with pointy ears is actually an informant. A dwarf gets his head put in a vice. The vice breaks. Gandalf swears heroically throughout.
Any more suggestions?
Frankly I'd find any of these more inviting than the prospect of more of Jackson's tousle haired friends.
Bruce
PS I read that according to the Register of Births and Deaths last year several children were christened Gandalf. Child abuse?

I had heard that Jackson was not going to do the film but did not know the reasons why.
Whilst I am looking forward to the making of 'The Hobbit', the film I am really looking forward to is 'The Silmarillion'.
Although the first films were good, I still felt there were a few liberties taken in the name of popular appeal and some inexplicable (to me) changes of script from the book.
That said I would still like to see Jackson making the film above anyone else.

A movie version of the Silmarillion, now that would be interesting! (Perhaps it would help me understand it?)
Personally, I look forward to 'Carry On, Hobbit' - oh no, I forgot it already is a 'carry on'...

If it means a 2 hour film instead of the usual 4 hour marathon (6 hrs for the directors cut, 12 for the directors cut with extra bits, 24 for the extended DVD special edition, directors cut), then i'm all for it.

A movie version of the Silmarillion would be interesting and could be difficult to pull-off due to the lack of dialogue in the book.
However, it could be possible to make it into a visual experience with narrative and a music score. Would be great if Ian McKellen did the narrative.

I remember a rather amusing fake trailer back when the first installment was release some years back, which first listed (with appropriately dramatic music and voice over) the release dates of the lord of the rings films, then, some years later the Hobbit, some years later still, the Silmarillion. Finally, these were followed (in 2017, if memory serves) 'scribbles in Tolkien's maths book'.

I think it might be because at the moment Jackson is suing New Line Cinema for $100 million.
