About Eva Cassidy.....
Posted by: mongo on 15 November 2009
Just heard a snippet of a radio program about Eva Cassidy. What a vioce! I had no idea.
What i'm hoping for is someone to tell me what might be the best quality recordings of her music, I'd hate to dilute such excellence with feeble cd's. Many thanks.

I recently bought Live At Blues Alley again on CD and the new version is better than my earlier c.2002 version by some way (same label).
Fields of Gold is a peach when compared to Sting's close to monotone style.

It seems as though i should get live at blues alley as well then? I'm off to the town centre today. i'll see if anyone has it.
As to vinyl, i'm more and more often being tempted to try it out. It seems many swear by it's greater fidelity?

Mongo -
If you get the Live at Blues Alley CD, suggest you obtain the blixstreet records version.
Be interested to know what you think.
For me this is a desert island disc.

Thanks for the help all. 'Got Songbird' yesterday and utterly loved her voice, incredible. I don't know how i've managed to miss her all these years. Not my usual fare at all, i must be mellowing.
Next up 'live at blues alley', too many heartfelt endorsements to ignore.

Eva Cassidy, great voice, died too young.

died too young indeed - her version of ..Over The Rainbow is in my very little book. The albums mentioned above are fab.
Another interesting voice is the Canadian Diane Nalini (a university professor!)- Check out her 'My Funny Valentine' on her After Dusk CD

My copy of Live at Blues Alley arrived today also, and very good it is too. Another bonus is I found my CD of Songbird.

I always knew the Music Room had a measurable effect on Amazon's sales.

I thought I had all her recorded stuff covered in my various CD's, but after realising you could get a copy of Live at Blues Alley with tracks I did not have (thanks to contributors on this post), I ordered it.
It arrived this morning and well what can I say that has not been said already
Its is just simply damn good, less "rose coloured" than the other stuff, more feel, presence and life.
If you want just 2x Eva CD's, get this one and Songbird.
