All I could give her was an upright organ...

NB,

I heard the 252 at the San Fran show a few monthes back.
I thought it was an amazing piece and was truly a leap ahead of the 52(and that is saying a lot).

How is yours getting on?

Marc

The 552 has been on for about an hour.
Not exactly burnt in.....

I can say the following without prejustice and with experience of knowing what the other high end manufactures sound like.

Right out of the box it sounded better than any other pre amp I have heard.
The level of accuracy and tonal balance is simply sublime.

I had always wished I could get my DBLS to sound as close to an ESL as possible.Based on my experience today-there is no need to look at or an ESL. The signature I hear from this system emulates most of the attributes I was drooling over for 18 years.I am sure as the days pass, more and more will be revealed....

I look forward to posting once a day and offering my findings.
PLEASE, those others who wish to do the same? Please do without hesitation...

I am floored!!!!

Regards,

Marc

Marc - All I can say is that it is outstanding to hear that somebody is 'floored' out of the box. Sure, it's great to look forward to improvements w/ burn in (gear or your ear, whichever theory you're into), but the notion that top end gear like Naim -- particularly a 552 but everything, frankly -- doesn't simply kick ass out of the box galls me.

For what its worth, my new 552 annihilated my 52 after 1 second of burn in. Then it got better ..

I'm with Minky on this one... in my experience my 552 improved for upwards of twelve weeks from new.

Enjoy it Marc secure in the knowledge that she has so much more to give you in the coming weeks!

Keep us posted!!

OK I Will be equally boring and predicatable re the comparison of the 552 to the 52.

After 2 days the mid orchestra sounded a bit adenoidal
After one week of steady change there was an apreciable improvement at the mid and low end -

Solo detail be it instrumental or voice has been excellent stratight out of the box.

Reverting to the 52 after the demo period with 552 was a very unacceptable experience - it is the first upgrade for a long time that I would not be able to back out of.
