An exceptional recital disc

I just finished listening to Anne-Sophie Mutter's Recital 2000 this morning and must gush: this is a remarkable recital recording that should be considered mandatory for fans of 20th century music. The playing is truly inspired throughout, the sound incredibly good for a live rcording. Briefly, the disc is so good that even Resphigi (hardly a favorite of mine) comes up very well. The George Crumb work is experimental, trippy, and brief, and quite interesting to hear. Both of these pieces I would rate as very good in the hands of Ms. Mutter and Mr. Orkis. The other two works, Prokofiev's Op 94a Violin Sonata and Webern's Four Pieces, are stunning. I have not heard a better version of either (out of anout 5 for Prokofiev and 4 for Webern so far); the Prokofiev is romantic and compelling, the Webern searching and profound. To put it simply, this is an inspired music making of the highest order. One of the best purchases I've made all year. My highest possible recommendation!

Last week Anne-Sophie Mutter and the conductor André Previn got married. She's 37, he's 73.

I rest my case.

73. Isn't that younger than her previous husband? She certainly likes her father figures.
