Tord Gustavsen/Stanko/EST

Nic Naim and my own will have helped to move me out of my musical comfort zone. I have long thought Jazz held something for me. I have tried many of the old jazz guys and think they are fine but it doesn't really get me. However I really enjoyed Tomasz Stanko and I think I am now hooked. E.S.T. however have hit me between the eyes and I can't stop playing them.... particularly 'behind the yashmak' which absolutely blows me away. Live - OMG

Have been listening to Tord Gustavsen on Myspace and I like what i hear. I have tho clearly missed the tour this autumn. Where should I start with this guy?

It's nice to be out of my comfort zone - thanks Nic Smile

This may be old news for some of you more plugged in jazz fans, but for the more casual listeners, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that the Tord Gustavsen group was coming to a small hall in New York late last month. I went with a friend who is not that well versed in jazz, and we were treated to a superb show which featured the new Restored, Returned material and band. Tord played a few of his more meditative ballads from his earlier ECM records, but they concentrated on the new record. It was far more outgoing and extroverted a performance than I imagined they would, or could, put across, given the very in-drawn pleasures on his first three ECM recordings, and at their most ecstatic, the band even swung at points, which was a nice surprise. Go see them if you have the chance.

Good listening,

Bruce

Pleased to hear it Bruce,

They are on my list to see when they next play near me. I have four Tord Gustavsen albums, think I'll give "Restored, Returned" a spin now.
