RIP Jack Profumo

Reference Flanders and Swann in All Gall, which is quite funny in the context. [At The Drop Of Another Hat].

More seriously, if anyone looks up the context, at least he resigned for being a fibber. At that rate most of the top Governement people would have gone years ago, wouldn't they? How things decline over time...

Another little thought from Frrdrik

George;

As an afficianado of F&S, you must be familiar with the splendid 'Song Of Reproduction'?

It's still relevant, and makes me laugh.

Everyone here should own a copy.

John.

Profumo didn't resign cos he was a fibber.
He resigned cos he was found out.

Yes John Profumo did resign because he was found out but once he was found out he went immediately.

He worked tirelessly for 40 years in the East End and has probably done more good for mankind than you and I put together.

It was a well known fact that he was offered a fortune in the nineties in return for writing a kiss and tell book but he did the honourable thing and kept his mouth shut.

Contrast this with a modern day liar Jeffery Archer' He ruined a couple of peoples lives because of perjury. He is now doing the circuits and getting paid very well for promoting a book about his regret in being a liar.

Perhaps you should learn to be a little more forgiving to a man who has redeemed himself with decency.

Regards

Mick

Hear hear Mick, nicely said and all perfectly true. Profumo had a good war and was an excellent minister before his unfortunate political demise. As you say he worked tirelessly for many charities for 40 years. A true gentleman who will be greatly missed.

I agree with Mick. In the end he paid his dues and more. It's very unfortunate that he will be known for the affair and not his good works, but then I guess the really good people do their work silently. A good man.

I was not going to praise JP as I thought maybe he was largely forgotten, but I am really pleased by the nice way this has turned out.

Thanks for all the posts, funny or seious, and they serve to restore faith in a sadly cynical world. Forgiveness exists, and is diserved in some cases.
