Jobs/Employment in London
Posted by: jamesfuge on 01 March 2009
Hi guys,
My girlfriend has been looking for a job in London as an administrator/Office assistant role for a couple of months now, but she isnt having much luck. She graduated the same time as me (June 08) with a 2.1 and has some Admin experience, but given the current 'climate' its difficult!
Has anyone here has any success with any employment agencies on London? or had a similar problem?
Its been stupidly long since shes had a job, but no one seems to want to give her a chance!
Any advice of what we could try would be much appreciated!
Cheers
James

James,
just an idea, but do you know anyone who works for the civil service? If you don't, go find someone - even lowly middle ranking staff can often put in a good word for you with human resources. It's probably the best way to get in the state sector - i.e, word of mouth, friends and family, etc. There's always 'temporary' one year contracts flying around, and once you're in the board selections will come round and you can go for permanent selection if you want to. If you're anything like a hard worker they'll gobble you up as many perm staff are often quite complacent and lazy in comparison.
Alternatively, some employment agencies have contracts to supply temp staff to state sector departments.

I'n not being funny. Has she looked at the MI5 and MI6 websites? They are both looking for Administrators.
Just a thought.

If she tells you, she would have to kill you though.

Entirely "need to know".
If you've not been through the "yellow marigolds" experience then you certainly don't need to know

If she, her close family and extended relations pass master then she may well be offered a position but please remember she will no longer be your girlfriend as work will always come first.

Why would anyone want to work/live in London anyway?
The opportunities outside this place are enormous
