Naim Collector....
I just got back from a month in Brisbane and found a couple of hifi shops around the town centre, all one block away from the main shopping street (Adelaide and Elizabeth streets I think they were called). However if I were you I would prepare to be a bit dissappointed. It seemed to me all round australia AV systems are all encompassing even in high brow hifi shops and the range of music hifi is generally very limited.
Having said that, I would avoid the reef for at least a couple of days and trawl round the chain and independant music shops. In HMV for example CDs are the equivalent of 6 to 10 UK pounds and the prices of discs and records in the many second hand shops are very good indeed due to the strong pound. There is a classic alternative music shop on Adelaide street if youre into that kind of thing.
I also kept seeing 2nd hand old vinyl worth a small fortune up here in the northern hemisphere that they were virtually giving away. I was kicking myself at having nowhere to transport the stuff back home. Don't think vinyl can be as big a collectors thing down under.
Have a good trip
Jonathan
Yes I will fish !!
The HT thing is happening everywhere, but we have two stores here in town that do still concentrate on Music. The thing we have going for us here in NZ is we are always last to catch on to trends, in this case a good thing.
