Any fans of BBC Radio 3's 'Late Junction' here?

I should have thought of doing a search first but didn't - there are a few fans here. Anyhow, it gets my vote.

LJ is the finest regular wireless broadcast I've ever come across. It really is a very special programme, with an amazing mix of music.

For those not attuned who have access to BBC Radio 3, it's 10:15 pm to midnight Monday to Thursday. Worth buying a good tuner and aerial for all on its own...

She's definitely better looking than John Peel.

How dare you impune the reputation of the Lady Verity sir, pistols at dawn!

Brains, taste, talent, drop dead looks, cool as a very cool thing somewhere cool on on a cool day - O be still my beating heart.

Jez, no slur. Im surprised at you though. I never thought anyone on the Naim forum would fall for attractive young women with husky voices, passion for music and a taste in HIFI..... On the other hand there was that strange Samantha and Rachel episode a l ittle while ago.

Hey Richard, I have that problem too! well almost. In my case as each track plays I think 'must buy this', and by the end of the show I want them all (well nearly), and end up buying none.

Great show - but agree with another contributor about needing a regular break from some of the World Music - a couple of weeks ago Lady V played an indian Rag that went on and on and on ...... and on for far too long - great if its to your taste, but tedious in the extreme otherwise!

I take your point David, but I think that is why I love it - not because I want to listen to some interminable stuff not to my taste, but because its approach is the opposite of almost every other radio show. i.e. only ever play tracks 2-4 mins long in case Mr & Mrs Gnatsattentionspan flips that dial, play 'safe' music that, ok, thrills nobody, but at the same time won't offend anyone either (Collins, Sting, Elton John, Travis, Corrs etc ad nauseum) and has to have constant prattle over intros/outros, pop quizzes, what’s on next, phone ins, competitions etc because no one out there actually enjoys music do they?, they just want some noise on to stop them remembering that they are lonely shits hanging on in quiet desperation to their miserable lives.

Well actually no, Messrs Wogan, Gambachini et al, I'd like some Monroe Brothers today followed up by William Orbit, Pink Floyd, Eric Bibb, and The Eels. Tomorrow? Dunno yet, got any Mahler? Orbital, Groove Armarda? Chopin next please followed by the Rev Gary Davis topped off by a 40 minute version of the Grateful Dead's 'Dark Star'. Get that lot in before the 8 o'clock pips why don't ya?

Much in agreement with what you said - pity though that the play-lists don't get published before the show rather than 1-2 days after it. This would give myself (and Mr & Mrs Gnatsattentionspan)the opportunity to avoid getting locked into an almost interminable piece of sitar music in the vain hope that 'its got to end soon!'. Interestingly enough I note from the recent play-lists that most of the items included are of 10-12 mins duration or less.

Incidentally does anyone have a piccy of Fiona Talkington?? to go with Verity's!

big grin

I'm still grinning at that one David, thanks. Just lie back and think of England, and it'll be over before you know it smile

2.15pm PST whenever possible. Responsible for frequent late excursions to Amoeba, which, conveniently, is just down the street (Haight).
