WTF??!! Elton John sings at Rush Limbaugh's (4th) wedding??!! REALLY??!!

Posted by: fred simon on 11 June 2010

I mean, WHAT?! Really?! How is this even possible?! On what alternative planet did this happen? It can't possibly be for the (relatively) paltry $1 million. I can't even begin to process this ... my head might just explode!

Elton, you have written some of the greatest songs ever ... thanks a lot for shitting all over them and our memories. Asshole!

A-list celebe - just like the Duchess of York - not worth breaking a sweat over.

But Elton John is an openly gay man! And Rush Limbaugh is a despicable asshole who, among many other crimes, has repeatedly insulted gays on his radio show, and even worse, has enabled and encouraged forces working to continue the repression of gay people.

The cognitive dissonance of it all has got me truly gobsmacked, dumbstruck, and flabbergasted.

For the modern "celebe," the only thing that matters is money! They would sell their own souls for enough of it. You and I are obviously more serious and have a sense of of self-respect.

I never take this kind of thing seriously. It is all froth ...

like George says its not worth the time of day.

So I take it from this that you believe Elton John has no talent?

Cheers

Dear Jim,

Absolutely not! If I had wanted to suggest that this was my view then I would have spelled it out in so many words.

Except that Elton already has ALL the money! The gig paid "only" $1 million ... he's got that much in coins lost under his sofa cushions. In exchange for what? Nothing less than the de facto endorsement of one of the most vile and regressive demagogues in media today.

This is not "froth" ... standing up for social justice is very much "worth the time of day." And given the opportunity to do so, what does "Sir" Elton do? Spits on everyone who has suffered and struggled in the cause of human rights. He's made a major socio-political statement, marching backwards.

The actions of "celebes," talented or otherwise, never amaze me. It's froth. Their behaviour that is, not the issue as you put it into context.

Clearly Elton John is not a man of integrity, even if he may be talented.

So I maintain it is froth in the manner of a great deal of celebrity behaviour. There is a saying that all publicity is good publicity. This seems the reason d'etre for much celebrity behaviour and attention seeking: nothing to break a sweat over.

If, dear Fred, it does worry you then I can understand that, but in my mind there is a myriad of more serious problems in the world, but we all have different priorities.

If there were any justice in this world, Sir Elton would have used this as an excuse to get close enough to Rush to slit him up like the pig that he is.

Sounds like you resent a transaction between consenting adults? Why shouldn't Rush have what he wants for $1 million, and why shouldn't Elton provide it?

I recommend you spend a little time actually listening to Rush, as much as you have Elton John. You may find that he makes more sense than you think. I am a big fan of both, by the way.

Build the bonfire, take my EJ LPs out like John Lennon, cry and distress myself? I think not.

His early music was so much better than anything he did from 80 on. I'd say he's talentless at this point. I saw the Red Piano on TV, gack!!!!! what drivel and vocals. But then I"ve never had any success that warranted a royalty payment for 50 years.

I'm sorry to hear that, Skip.

Despite your presumption otherwise, I've actually spent quite a bit of time listening not only to Rush Limbaugh, but Sean Hannity and Mark Levin (who I think is somehow even more despicable than Limbaugh). And when I do, they actually make less sense, not more. I listen to them because I want to know what kind of vile evil they're up to ... I don't want them out of my sight, so to speak.

just a thought..........

but what happens the next time Rush goes off on his rants and someone says 'hey hang on a moment, didn't you have that outrageous larger than life queen play at your wedding.......'?

just a thought......

Indeed, Fred. Your thread here is taking up valuable bandwidth that could better be used discussing the serious problems of the world, like GFFJ's broken bicycle.

Or the crisis in the Gulf of Mexico just now. Strangely there is a link between your crucial and important example and mine dear jayd, if you think about it.

George

PS: I have no issue about taking up inernet capacity with things of lesser significance. I just happen to not agree with Fred that it is a huge issue what Elton John does. He is a free man able to make his own sometimes possibly surprising decisions. I rather enjoy reading what Fred writes and sometimes we agree!

And Fred's. If you think about it.

(BTW, the bike isn't my example, it's yours, if we lead by example that is.)

But isn't Rush Limbaugh in reality a deeply repressed gay man or is that just internet gossip?
Maybe it's just his first step at coming out

Perhaps Sir Elton agrees with many Rush's political positions. He married a Canadian so he must have some brains!
Posted on: 16 June 2010 by graham55
I have no idea who Rush Limbaugh is, but having that balding queen perform would be a downer at any wedding.

He's only "written some of the greatest songs ever ."

Graham,
That balding queen has done more good for this world/Planet than you will ever do.
He does so much more than you see on the news and in the press.
So shut up.
And i did his two LP12's and a few of his systems and put a lot of the kit in Dick James Studios/Offices in the mid 70s. So you cant blame Peter for that. Roll Eyes

It's oddly reassuring to see that munch's manners have not improved during his enforced 'exile'. I'll ignore his rudely delivered advice, though, as I can live with his disapproval of me!

Get lost, again: you weren't allowed to post, so that perhaps constitutes a 'ban'. My comment wasn't homophobic: Elton John's just a dreadful camp man, whatever you may say.

Please don't start using the 'gay' card to do me down.

PS: Why don't you shut up yourself? The Forum was better without your constant snipping!
