Perhaps because it might have killed somebody?

A crocodile was shot this week by state govt rangers in a river system just to the north of here. A man and his wife were fishing in a CANOE, a swish of the tail and they were both in the water.
No sign of him inside the croc however it is known that a crocodile will position the body under a log or tree root until he feels the need of inner sustainance.
Incidentally the family were most unhappy the croc was killed acknowledging that their husband and father respected these creatures though obviously he took them a bit for granted.
Crocodiles are a protected species and problem crocs are usually removed to a farm. Once this croc goes a new one moves into the vacated territory.
