Removing static

Posted by: apye! on 01 June 2010

Hi,
I have tried a search on this subject with no luck.
The majority of new vinyl I have bought seems to have a lot of static, on the record I mean, not through the speakers.
I use a carbon fibre brush to clean them and put them in Nagaoka anti-static sleeves, but the static is still there!!
When I remove them from the platter along comes the felt mat as well, which is not a major problem, but they attract a lot of dust which over a period of time causes crackling.
What is the best method of removing this static, are the 'guns' any good?

The Zerostat works, as do record cleaning machines.

Apye, you could be the source of the static (clothing material, carpet..).

Try an earthing wrist band while you are handling your records. These are worn by people who handle IC's and other static sensitive items.

At the Naim factory you have to put on special footwear - I'm sure they'll explain how it works, as I can't recall all the details.

This works as recommended by Mike

Don't you need to attach the earthing strap to something in order to earth it? I remember using one when messing about rebuilding old PC's. You attached it to the PC's chassis.

Steve.

I already have the Knosti antistat LP cleaner, don't like the idea of cleaning new vinyl with old!

I have not got the Zerostat3 though so I think I will give one a try.

Thanks for the info guys!! Big Grin
