Dead iMAC

Posted by: BigH47 on 14 February 2009

Just to finish off a really great week, not.I went to wake up the iMAC this morning, it responed with a pop and tripped the downstairs ring, switching off the hifi et all. iMAC is now dead, it didn't blow the 10A fuse in the powerlead mind you.

I am just waiting for the new updated and rumoured imac to come out and then I cannot wait to take my Dell PC to the tip. Think I might use a sledgehammer on it to get it back for all the stress and pain it has caused me......

As with all computers, pc or mac, make sure you have a back-up regime in place in case things like this happen.

Hopefully BigH47 will get sorted out without loss of important files.

I remember a graduate discussion on trash, someone said that they can dig down in our current dumps and date everything precisely by just the telephone books.

Later someone was talking about lack of resources I said "don't worry, we have all those old landfills to mine for metal, glass, paper and wood." The head of the program liked that idea.

Now there are so many recycling programs not in place 20 years ago.

But it is really stupid to send greens and yard waste to dumps, create a mulch pile, even if it's just a trash can with holes, and put everything in it. Heats itself up and reduces to 'black gold' as organic gardening magazine called it. Takes a little maintenance tho. Reduces weeding and need for fertilizers. Gives you good exercise too.

Getting back to the imac,I would like to ask BigH how old or how long it did work for?
My windows lap top will need replacement soon and I have been looking at the idea of going Apple imac.

Sorry for you're loss Howard.

3 to 4 months geepers! a dj friend of mine bought a macbook pro in the U.S. 4 months ago, he bought it because everyone he spoke with said macs are great for music and todays mobile dj.
he powered it up the outher morning after he awoke to listen to some tunes and after touching the trackpad it went all mad on him.

He will be taking it to the applestore in Cambridge now that I have given directions to the store so at least they will fix or replace this one,a good thing apple are global on this.

Howard,
I think this was a refurb unit, so I would be interested in how Apple handle this. I have been considering a refurb Macbook to replace my old Powerbook which struggles with video and has no digital audio out but will buy new, if necessary.
Good luck with the repair,
Huw

Hi guys the guy at the franchised Apple shop/ service place, Solutions Inc. Says it's probably the power supply. AFAICT the warranty is as a new machine, we also bought the extra years service/ maintenance package too.
He said if you haven't heard by COP Thursday give them a call. I'll call Wednesday I think, to try and avoid them going into the W/E when the service department doesn't work.
Will report as things pan out.

PS No luck selling the kids, they've been returned Winker !!!

Great to hear from Howard himself...for a moment there I thought that Stu was you're press officer.lol.

Hope its soon sorted,Mike.

I think Stu is filling in the long blanks, the PC is in the spare room so I don't get on as much as normal.
He's doing though.
Posted on: 18 February 2009 by BigH47
That should read "He's doing OK though".

It's beginning to sound like a PC saga (no not really).
Any way ready Friday has gone.
Monday it took until passed 14:00 to get the W/E faulties from the shop about 100 mts away, "+will look at it today" he agreed that probably a new PSU was needed, "we are ordering other parts, so will add that".
Chased Wednesday no order has been sent, blew top." Will still be ready Friday"
Chased Friday, PSU here waiting to fit, today? says I, "no not enough time for soak test, it will be Monday now." Frown

I downloaded the trial version of a file recovery program, which managed to find the disc drives I'd pulled out of the PC and seemed to be able to read the files, but it's pretty expensive, takes forever, and there's only a couple of files I really need.

The drives seem undamaged, just can't access the files directly from anther computer for some reason.

My iMAC has risen, all seems to be OK, even if it took a few days longer than expected.
