Is there any music captivating you at the moment?

I buy quite a few albums (non- format specific) as I'm sure most of us do on here. Most of these get a few listens, might show up in the "what are you listening to" thread then get filed away to reappear occasionally.
Now and again I get an album that completely captivates me, that I listen to at every listening session, that I treat in fact the way I used to treat purchases when I was younger by playing them to death.
I thought a thread for such occurrences might be useful as I listened for the umpteenth time to:
The Lounge LizardsIt's a wonderfully immediate album, a punky take on Jazz. The album you'd imagine the Attractions might have made if fronted by Wayne Shorter in 1980. Produced by Miles Davis' one time producer Teo Macero which updates the production on the likes of Jack Johnson to the state of play in 1980 - which in my opinion the time around 77-81 production values had reached their zenith.
I just picked this up second hand at a whim and it is certainly adding a breath of fresh air to my collection.

I find it really difficult to be captivated by new music ...perhaps I'm just a cynical oldie who has convinced himself there's nothing really "new" in music anymore ...then I heard this (which ironically does sound rather "old") but remains to me the finest new album I've heard in aeons.

There are quite a few albums which I can't manage to play to death, but here is one which I only recently discovered and which kept me quite busy:

Jet,
Funnily enough, I heard this for the first time tonight after being lent it by one of my football playing mates. First impression are good, a mixture of eras and styles, needs a few more listens before I know if it is captivating.
Regards
Nic

This is one of the three albums that currently sit on top of my CD storage unit, along with -
...and -
All three of which I find superb in their different ways and just jump from one to the other!

Suddenly find myself back with this old friend - strange how these things can take one.

I got this Portishead album the day it came out, but it's only lately that it's grabbed me:
Some interesting choices though - perhaps the only thing that captivated me less last year than Bon Iver was Fleet Foxes. I can't see it myself, though I'll probably try them both again some time.

Flyme - why are you playing an album by John Major?

A brand new CD that's knocked me out is "Like Minds" by Trudy Kerr. I'm not a fan of vocal jazz but this album is stunning.

Guy Clark - Old No. 1. This album never disappoints and the Superline is digging even more detail from the grooves. Every song a movie.
It's difficult to name a favourite but Instant Coffee Blues is just spot on.

I'm hoping her follow-up record will be as good as the debut though that is asking a lot.

One of my favourite songs is "Desparadoes........." sung by Freddie White on his live album
Live on Tour Track list
1 Po-Jama People
2 God’s Song
3 My Walking Stick
4 Desperadoes Waiting for a Train
5 Big Time Woman
6 Long Distance Love
7 Smoke Gets In Your Eyes
8 Down To Zero
9 Marie
10 Ain’t Misbehaving
11 Trouble Child
12 In Germany Before The War
Wonderful versions of all these songs, from Waits to Newman, Zappa to Carmichael and of course Guy Clarke.
Always wondered where to dip my toes in with Guy Clarke and I guess my question is answered.

He's written some great songs, but none of his albums are as consistently strong as this one. You can get it as 2-on-1 with Texas Cookin' but I prefer the LP version as it is something of an old friend. Only got the CD when I had the LP12 in storage when I was living in the US.
